On Sunday, January 12, the Thacher basketball gym and outdoor courts buzzed with energy as Way to Play hosted a youth basketball clinic for kids aged 7 to 13. With over 20 young athletes participating, the event was designed to teach fundamental basketball skills in a fun and interactive way. Alongside all members of the Way to Play organizers, many student volunteers agreed to participate as coaches in the event.

The clinic included drills focused on shooting, dribbling, and passing, as well as fun scrimmages at the end to apply the skills learned. Coach Ryan Lee, one of the event organizers, praised the efforts of the student volunteers and the impact of the clinic, saying, “It was inspiring to see students on campus step up as leaders and mentors. The kids were engaged and brought great energy to the gym. The event truly showcased the power of sports to bring people together and have fun.”
Overall, the clinic was a resounding success, leaving both young athletes and organizers eager to participate in future Way to Play events. “My son came home from the Way to Play sports clinic absolutely thrilled – he’s more confident in his basketball skills, and he even made new friends. The student coaches did an amazing job creating such a positive and encouraging environment. We’ll definitely be signing him up again next time,” Elizabeth Peelle, a parent of a fifth grader said.

Participants will have the opportunity to select one sport at registration. The clinic is open to all students between 7 and 13 years of age, and registration is due by Feb 7.
